SL Conference: Announcements



Getting there from the Airport: 
As most participants will be arriving on the 13th it may be possible to arrange vans or buses IF we are informed well in advance.
 A taxi from Colombo to Kandy costs SL Rs 7000. A taxi from the Airport to Kandy should cost less and take about 3 hours. Taxis are available OUTSIDE the airport. The airport taxi counter outside the departure exit will facilitate this—the fare is standardized. Public transport—buses and trains are available from Colombo city which is one hour from the airport. There are several trains and many buses departing for Kandy from the Colombo Fort Railway station and the central bus stand outside the railway station. Public buses and taxis are available from the airport to the Colombo city.

Below are phone numbers of tour companies . Participants who want to be met at the airport can also call one of these numbers to book a car and a driver to meet them and take them to the hotel in Kandy.

Trains to Kandy

Currency exchange rate: I US $ is equal to 130 Sri Lanka Rupees. Currency can be exchanged at the airport, or any bank. You can also exchange money at any ATM by using your ATM card from the home bank to withdraw Sri Lanka rupees. Please note that Indian or Pakistani currency cannot be exchanged at the Colombo airport.

Meals at the Conference venue during the conference:
Lunch and two snacks a day will be provided during the Conference, that is, 14th, 15th and 16th. All the presenters and plenary speakers will be hosted to dinner on the 14th . Participants will be expected to get their own dinner on the 15th. On the 16th the Conference will end at approximately 5.30 pm.
Buses will be available for people on the 14th and 15th to return to their hotels. On the last day vans could be arranged to help participants who wish to return to Colombo after the conference.
Registration fee
For participants from the South Asia region the fee is SRL Rs 2,000 ( this fee includes dinner on the opening night  of 14th December, two lunches and snacks on 15th and 16th. The fees can be paid in person on the date of registration.

Photocopying
There are no photocopying facilities. ALL presenters must bring with them as many copies of their paper they may need for their presentation (to be given to fellow panelists and the chair). Please make sufficient copies of your travel documents.

Participants are also  adviced to bring their medicines,  if on prescriptions.
